People who know little about Maths, or anything, are appearing on tv saying the virus is growing ‘exponentially’. What they mean is that the rate of increase is a power of something, that the graph goes up but as it goes up it gets steeper.
Mathematicians know the natural number e = 2.71828… We can draw graphs of ex which look like this:
